It’s over! Summer, that is. And good riddance. I can’t stand the heat!

Anyway, a couple of things:

I’m reading, along with John Langan, at the SoHo Gallery for Digital Art (138 Sullivan St., NYC) on Tuesday, September 7, at 7pm. Come on down!

I’ll also be speaking at the Brooklyn Public Libraries this fall:

September 20th, 6:15pm, Arlington Branch

October 21st, 4:30pm, Saratoga Branch

Stories:

My story, “Are You Trying to Tell me This is Heaven,” is now out in John Joseph Adams’ anthology The Living Dead 2. The antho has gotten a starred pw review, and tons of praise. Other authors include David Wellington, Kelly Link, Cherie Priest, Kelley Armstrong, Max Brooks, John Skipp and Cody Goodfellow, and Catherynne Valente, to name a few. The website is here, and contributors will also be blogging for Tor Books all month.

Glass Eye Pix’ Production of my radio play, “Is This Seat Taken?” is underway, and will be directed by JT Petty.

On that note, JT Petty’s Mock-Doc “S&MAN” is now out. I’ve got a cameo, and it is one of the best films on the decade. It’s scheduled to have its theatrical debut at ReRun in October.

My first science fiction story will be published in October. More on that to come when I know I can announce it!

Work continues on the fourth novel. When I decide it’s ready to go, you all will be the first to know.

I hope your summer has been fantastic. Thanks for staying tuned.

Sincerely,

Sarah Langan

Summer Update!

Thanks to everybody who keeps signing up.

A few things: AUDREY’S DOOR got a great review from Black Static Magazine. Check it out if you can.

I’m going to be a guest of honor at two conventions next year (along with some other very cool people it’ll be a pleasure to join):

World Horror Convention, April 28- May 1 in Austin, Texas. If you’re interested, you can register here: http://whc2011.org/registration/

Northeastern Writers’ Conference (NECon), July 21-24, Bristol, RI. Registration is currently for people who’ve attended in the past, but will open up shortly.

Stories, stories, stories:

My story “Independence Day” is available from PS Publishing. It’s one of my favorites.

Thrillers: 100 Must Reads, edited by David Morrell and Hank Wagner, is now out. The thriller genre’s biggest authors all contributed essays, and I’ve got one in there about Robert Louis Stevenson.

Glass Eye Pix will be producing a radio play I wrote entitled, “Is This Seat Taken?” As well as dircting his own short play, JT Petty, happily, has agreed to direct “Is This Seat Taken.”

My story “Are You Trying to Tell Me This is Heaven?” is due out in John Joseph Adams’ anthology THE LIVING DEAD 2 is due out from Nightshade books in September. You can preorder it here. Other contributers include: Kelly Armstrong, Max Brooks, Cherie Priest, and David Wellington.

I wrote my first hard science fiction story, and it’s slated for publication in October. More news on that to come.

Finally, my husband JT Petty’s terrifying classic, S&Man, is finally available on DVD. You can preorder it from Amazon.com, complete with director’s commentary, and a cameo from yours truly.

That’s it for now. Hope all is great!

Everybody!

New guys: thanks for signing up.

The rest of you: more thanks!

The news:

*My review of “Splice” is up at the Tor Books Blog.

*Radio play! I’ll be writing one for Glass Eye Pix. Stay tuned. Bad pun intended.

*I’ve got an essay about Robert Louis Stevenson in Thrillers: 100 Must Reads. I put a lot of thought into it, and discovered that Stevenson lived an heroic life. So if you get it, tell me what you think.

*My story, “Born to Run” in DARKNESS ON THE EDGE: stories inspired by Bruce Springsteen is available from PS Publishing. It’s one of my strongest to date.

*My story “The Agathas” from Dark Scribe’s UNSPEAKABLE HORROR is in hardcover. I have no idea where, though, so I’ll keep you all posted. For now, the trade paperback.

I’ve got a review of “Donnie Darko” coming out in CINEMA FUTURA from PS Publishing in September, 2010, edited by Mark Morris.

*Work on book four, the young adult series, and an all-lady collaboration of awesomeness continues. More news on those fronts to come.

*Finally, my husband, director JT Petty filmed the trailers for Justin Cronin’s THE PASSAGE. They are awesome, obviously. But don’t take my word for it:

Hope you’re all great. Don’t get none on ya.

Sincerely,

Sarah Langan

I went to the fundraiser for One-Story Magazine Friday night, and feel compelled to blog about it. I went to graduate school with the publisher, Maribeth Batcha. She started the magazine, along with Hannah Tinti, eight years ago. Most of these magazines fail. One-Story has flourished for one reason; it publishes quality fiction, often from the slush pile. The fundraiser was a “Debuntante Ball” in which authors first published or published early in their careers were escourted by established writers like Victor LaValle, Michael Cunningham, Jonathan Letham down an aisle, while the rest of us cheered, and pc guy John Hodgman emceed. Writers so rarely get to celebrate accomplishments– there’s just not enough money for parties. This was a lot of fun.

Anyway, It’s great, and heartening, to see something so worthwhile manage to thrive.

Everybody!

First, thanks to all the new people who signed up. Hope you get your money’s worth. The bar, at least, is low.

Second, AUDREY’S DOOR won the Bram Stoker award for outstanding novel 2009. Hooray! I’m delighted to join the company of Straub, King, and McCammon for winning twice for novel (and overall, three times!). I’m also just generally delighted. Remember how SNL used to be dominated by men, and then the ladies came along? It feels like that. A total sea change. More details on the awards here.

Also, my short stories Fenstad’s End , The Burn Victim, The Dark Materials Project , and The Agathas all got honorable mentions in Ellen Datlow’s Anthology, The Best Horror of the Year, 2009.

Finally, I was a founding juror for two years for the Shirley Jackson Awards, and am now an advisor. They came out with the final ballot last week, and it’s pasted below. Congratulations to all. This kind of thing takes a lot of work, and jurors do it for free, so particular kudos to F. Brett Cox, John Langan, Erika Mailman, and Lisa Tuttle.
